The Brothers Leagues Club is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our patrons, staff and community.
We maintain the highest standards of COVID-19 compliance and operate in strict accordance with the Industry COVID Safe Plan for licensed venues and Public Health Directions.
Queensland Health first advised (on Sunday 8th August) that Brothers Leagues Club’s Gaming Lounge was listed as a Close Contact Exposure Site for the period of 3pm-5pm on Thursday 5th August 2021.
Upon receipt of this information, we acted swiftly to close the club immediately, organise a deep clean and follow all quarantine procedures and advice from Queensland Health.
On Tuesday 10th August the Queensland Chief Medical Officer provided updated advice that genomic testing had established a link for this patron to a previous case (marine pilot) dating back to 26th July.
Working with Queensland Health, we have been able to provide additional details to contact tracers.
With the support of Brothers Leagues Club, Queensland Health has now updated their Contact tracing (exposure sites) listing to include the following:
Exposure date | Place | Exposure times | Category |
Thursday 29 July 2021 | Gaming Lounge, adjacent smoking area and toilets, Brothers League Club | 11.45am – 2.55pm | Close |
Thursday 5 August 2021 | Gaming Lounge, adjacent smoking area and toilets, Brothers League Club | 12.35pm-3.40pm* | Close |
*Times updated from original release of information
The initial deep clean included all areas of the club and was completed on Sunday 8th August in accordance with the official Queensland Health guidelines.
As a further precaution, a second deep clean will be completed on Wednesday 11th August.
Brothers Leagues Club Group General Manager, Shane Fitzgerald, stated “we reiterate the advice of Queensland Health that anyone who was at the Club during this time immediately quarantine, get tested and follow the directions of Queensland Health.”
“The safety of our patrons and staff is our highest priority, which is why we have always maintained the strictest hygiene measures and COVID-19 compliance,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
“Our thoughts are with this gentleman and his family, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
“Brothers Leagues Club strictly enforces use of the Check-In Queensland App and all contact tracing information is in the hands of Queensland Health.
“We have been working with Queensland Health to assist with all enquiries and requests, including the identification of all staff members who have been deemed a close or casual contact.
“All these staff members have been contacted and advised of the relevant testing and quarantine requirements.
“We are also supporting them through what is already a difficult time with the lockdown with as much advice and support as we can provide.
“We continue to provide regular updates to our members and guests via social media and email communications.
Mr Fitzgerald commented that the Cairns community need to rally together in true North Queensland style and stay at home, get tested if unwell and get vaccinated when possible.
“I want to reassure our patrons that we are taking this very seriously and when permitted to re-open, we look forward to welcoming back our valued patrons”, Mr Fitzgerald said.
